Fountains in the Garden… A Living Centerpiece

Almost everyone delights in the vibrant colors and sweet aromas of a beautiful garden. You, too, can grow one, and it can encompass any space you can imagine. For instance, a line of bright Zinnias can add pizazz to an old wire fence. Tall sunflowers can hide an aging foundation or peeling paint. A field of softly colored wild flowers rests the eye and saves the task of mowing. Or, picture a spray of briar-roses, cascading over a new wooden gate! Your own garden can be original, it can reflect you.
Now, visualize your original flower, herb or fern garden surrounding a bubbling, spritely water fountain! Plant some ferns up close, they’ll enjoy the moisture evaporating off the water as it rises and falls. Collect some stones, place them near the fountain and plant some moss roses to cover them with a carpet of red, gold, orange or honey-white. Yes, a bubbling fountain can draw out the sublime wonder of any natural garden!
Many people are installing wall fountains outside in their gardens. These fountains remain ever full of sparkling water, because they operate by revolving water from the basin.  They are truly artful pieces, constructed of satiny copper, which changes in rainbow hues with the water; stainless steel, which remains bright and new under any conditions; slate or stone, which reflects the unspoiled beauty of the earth itself; and even a fountain constructed of luminous mirrors! Many of these fountains are low maintenance, they can go virtually anywhere. Fit one into that little corner garden in the backyard. Place one next to the sunflowers along the garage or set one in next to the ferns where a toad makes his home. Make sure you can access piped water to your little garden place, and you’ll have created your own secret grotto!
Of course, you need to think about the style that really appeals to you before investing in a wall fountain for your garden. They come in so many versions, and you’ll want one that answers to your own originality. With proper planning, a wall fountain can appear to have simply ‘grown’ into your garden, like the tea roses drooping over the trellis.
Not only do these fountains enhance any garden setting, they are dynamic assets to inside living space as well. What is meant by ‘dynamic’? It means, ever changing, like something alive. The constant rise and fall of bubbling water, the spray of moisture into the air, creates a living experience that draws the human spirit again and again.
These wall fountains can be placed almost anywhere desired in any home. They are great because they don’t take up wall space like furniture does. Instead, they open up a small room, while drawing the eye to the serene rising and falling of water. House plants are the green life from outdoors  thriving in our homes.  You can create an indoor garden that surrounds and frames the work of art that a wall fountain truly is. Imagine the green leaves of an ivy plant tightly wound around a fountain built of stone. Perhaps a stone frog could hide next to the leaves. Or  a delicate, indoor orchid plant could reflect its velvet petals in a copper fountain as truly as a mirror image.
Would you like the fountain to act as a large centerpiece for a room, like the courtyard fountains of old? It could, and some reclining chairs about the area would add to the effect. Perhaps you seem to have no room for a fountain at all. You can have one. Tiny fountains made of shells, glass beads and bamboo splits are available. Place one on the coffee table in your family room. You’ll find everyone drawn to its serene, moving surface.
Wall fountains of many kinds can accent your existing décor, or create a new, dynamic space of interest and immediacy. With the constant flow of water, the new décor is ever-changing, and ever new. This is an eye-catching, living attraction that cannot be duplicated with ordinary decorative objects.
Water fountains are dynamic pieces for the garden, and perfect for the inside of the home as well!
